Clean Energy Enterprises sets Port Adelaide on sustainability path
National solar panel and clean energy specialist Clean Energy Enterprises (CEE) today announced that it will sponsor the Port Adelaide Football Club for the remainder of the AFL season.
The agreement includes several sustainability measures to be undertaken by Port Adelaide including:
- Conducting a clean energy and sustainability audit to see where it can improve
- Purchase and installation of clean energy technology
- Purchase of carbon offsets for club air travel
The agreement also includes Port Adelaide appointing a full-time sustainability officer – one of the first, if not the first, AFL club to do so.
The announcement was made today at Port Adelaide’s home ground of Alberton by CEE Managing Director Daniel Cobb and Power CEO Keith Thomas.
“Our corporate message is about sustainability and through Port Adelaide we have a great opportunity to show how corporate Australia and a sporting organisation can work together for the benefit of the community, the clean energy economy and the environment. To us, there are many winners with our announcement today,” Mr Cobb said.
“It is no secret that South Australia has done more to encourage the clean energy message than any other state and that is demonstrated in the fact that it has almost double the penetration of domestic solar panels than any other state.”
While CEE has its national headquarters in Melbourne, the majority of its employees are in Adelaide through its ownership of its high profile retail brand Solar Shop.
Mr Thomas said the club was pleased to welcome CEE as a sponsor of the club and was keen to get the club up-to-speed from a sustainability perspective.
“It is important that sporting clubs show the way from a sustainability perspective just as much as corporate Australia does,” he said.
Mr Thomas said Port Adelaide will begin to integrate sustainability into many of its existing programs as well as to create a new sustainability community initiative. A Port Adelaide player will also become a “Sustainability and Clean Energy Player Ambassador”.
The Clean Energy Enterprises logo will also appear on the match ball for the remaining five Port Adelaide home games.
The Port Adelaide announcement follows CEE’s agreement in April that it will sponsor the Adelaide United Football Club.
